Manual for Cross.exe
You see only definition of Across and Down word that are in focus and nothing more. This way you don't have to search word definitions in crowded definition tables.
Crosswords are files with *.C_W extension.
You can open a crossword in this tool using any of the four different ways:
- By double-clicking the file in an explorer,
- By right-clicking and then choosing open in the popup menu,
- Opening another file when previous crossword was completed.
- Starting Cross.exe (Solving tool icon in the Start programs menu) that invokes open dialog on start.
Yellow field is a selected field.
You move the selection with a cursor keys on your keyboard (UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT) or you can use mouse to jump to any particular field in the crossword.
On top and at the bottom of the crossword are the definitions of an Accross and a Down word, respectively. They size automatically.
You enter letters into the crossword by typing them on the keyboard. Only valid characters are accepted. There is no need to adjust windows keyboard language setting when solving different crosswords in different languages (character sets). Character conversion is done for you automatically, you just use English Windows keyboard language settings.
Definition that has yellow colored frame is denoting the selected direction for entering characters into a crossword. This direction means that whenever you enter a character in a crossword that is accepted as possible to be in a crossword, selection moves to adjacent field in a selected direction.
You can switch directions by pressing
- CTRL+LEFT (for horizontal direction)
- CTRL+DOWN (for vertical direction)

Solving tool offers you help if you get stuck with a crossword.
Also you can turn sounds on of off, or get the help in solving crossword by marking all correct and incorrect entries by a red and blue color, respectively.
It can reveal one (selected) field by pressing CTRL+ENTER, or it can show you a complete solution by choosing from a right-click pop-up menu.
When you fill the crossword completely and correctly than you will be offered to open another crossroad "Try another?". Choosing "No" closes this tool, "Yes" opens the dialog for you to choose another crossword file (extension ".C_W).
